I need guidelines of when to go back from the table and how will I know if I'm back enough. Can you give me guildelines? Like how many steps back? How far from the table should I use my shortened topspin? full topspin?

Also can you guys film a video or just teach me how to shorten strokes? In you're Forehand Topspin against Block Video, I see Jeff has fast hand speed. At first I thought he was just away from the table enough but when I saw the side view position, he was close to the table and he able to do the drill in that distance in fast speed.

Which should I do mainly in drills? The short topspin stroke or the full topspin stroke away from the table?

Hi Carlo,

The distance from the table depends on the amount of time you have.  If you react quickly then you can stay close, if however you find that you don't have enough time then you need to move back slightly.

You should practice both short and full strokes.  The stroke that you learn should be able to be shortened on exactly the same path.  So if you have more time you prepare and follow through a bit more.

The strokes  start with your fingers and wrist and then extend to your forearm and upper arm.  If you have very little time you just use the movement in your wrist and fingers, but the more time you have you use more parts of your arm.

I don't really think you answered my questions but thanks anyway. I don't quite understand the last part. Fingers and Wrist?

I invented my own guideline for distance and that's one step back with each step only 1 ft backward.
