Equipment
Hi,
I wanted to know what are the differences in terms of
1. spin
2. speed
3. blocking
for rubber with 1.8,1.9 and max
Which is recommended for backhand.
I do not do lot of backhand topspin. (need mainly for good blocks).
Thanks,
Amber
Hi Amber,
The thicker the rubber the more spin and speed you will get. If you mainly block on the backhand I would go for 1.8mm.
Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.

A funny thing about thicker sponges is that they also "add speed" to the other side as well -- the racket becomes heavier and faster overall. Recently I changed my backhand rubber (Xiom Vega Europe) from 2.0 to MAX and I was really surprised by this effect.

Interesting. I need a new bat soon, and I'm going to get the same rubbers as before. On my anti, though, I have MAX sponge at the moment. Do you think I should change to a thinner sponge?
With the anti I think the thicker sponge is OK. Depends on the feel that you like.
