Training
Hi PingSkills,
I need to develop my backhand topspin. Do you have any drills that i could use at training?
Hi Darrell,
Start by playing your backhand topspin to your training partner's block. Keep a record of how many you can hit on in a row.
It's also important to integrate your backhand With the test of your game. The next drill you can do is to play one backhand and one forehand topspin. Again you can count how many shots you can make in a row.
Once you're getting better at these drills, you can try some more complicated ones that we have in our training drills PDF available from the free downloads page.
You also need to practice your topspin off backspin. An easy way to this is to serve a short backspin serve, have your partner push long to your backhand, then you make a backhand topspin and the rest of the rally is free.
Try out these drills and let me know if it helps improve your backhand.
Question actions
Playing forehand and backhand strokes individually in practice is an important step in your development but to use them effectively in a game situation you must be able to switch between them. This sounds like a simple step but it's something you must practice. Lesson 10 focuses on ensuring you can quickly switch between your backhand and forehand table tennis strokes.
