I was watching a table tennis video:

and at 0:29 the guy in the blue shirt has a weird shaped bat with semi circles taken from the sides.  Do you know what this is?

Hi Bennett,

I think that was Damien Eloi of France.  From memory he used a weird shaped bat at one stage.  Maybe he felt that those parts of the bat were not necessary and taking them off made the bat lighter.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!

Yep, that's Damien Eloi. His blade was a Tibhar IV-S cut to this odd shape that makes it look like a guitar. It's name was "Swing" (in reference to the guitar). Why this shape? I don't know. Alois's theory about unused surface (Eloi is an attacker) and weigth gain is probably correct. Maybe it also reduces drag and thus helps increasing racket speed. They also made a "Swing" version of the popular Tibhar Patrick Chila blade.
