Hi,

The Butterfly Sweeris is a good beginners bat.  Whatever you use you should have something with good control.  These type of bats are ideal at first.  Later you may move on to a defensive type rubber even a long pimple rubber for your backhand, if you are looking to be a defensive player.

Stick with this bat for a little while and then you can look at changing in a few months.

I found myself in a similar situation where after playing for about a year of a controlled style of game I wanted to make the transition to a defensive style. The first thing you want to make sure is that you have developed all the basic techniques as it may hinder your development down the track.  I got myself an allround blade, with a tacky fh rubber that wasn't too fast and a controllable long pimples rubber that was simple to use for first timers. It's also generally harder to increase your level compared to other attacking people as the style is very difficult to master so you need to know that there'll be many frustrating times ahead but if you can get through it, it'll be very rewarding.
