Defender vs pen-hold grip players

Hi,

Pen-holders use more wrist with their forehand. Therefore good backhand chop and forehand chop is much harder to execute. Is there any way to fix that?

Hi,

I think the main limiting factor for Penholders chopping is utilising both sides of the racket and also the reach especially on the backhand side.

I have seen a couple of players do this successfully but if you are thinking of chopping emptying the shake hand grip is probably easier.

When defender chops, pen-hold players attack the ball much easier. is there any improvement for defender?

Hi,

Sorry, I misunderstood your question.  Penholders can tend to get more spin on their forehands.  They are limited with their backhands against chop so I would target their backhand side.  That may also mean going wide into their forehand side first so that you can get them to play the next ball with their backhand.
