1. My coach says that if I do a counterhit, I should tilt my racket down before I hit it. (but it is not spin) Why do I need to tilt my racket down?

2. He said that I should hit the ball (counterhit) when the ball bounces and stays in the air. Is this correct? Why?

Hi Sharlynne,

As he is watching you hit the ball you should take note of what he is saying.  Maybe you are tilting it too far back.

The best place to hit the ball for a counterhit is at the top of the bounce or just before the top of the bounce.
