Counter topspins

Strokes

One more question from me. To start with i can say im a solid with solid topspin which means that i have good third ball attack with lots of spin and speed ,but when I play with better players who have good third ball attack (as me or better) with lot of spin and speed I find it difficult to return that spin (or attack it) properly. I often return it to high or sometimes block it in false way etc. In theory I know my options which means that I can block the ball or make a counter topspin with making a step back of the end off the table but in reality this is not so well. Do you have any advice what to do in this situations?

Hi Dario,

I think one of the keys to blocking is to make sure you are watching the ball and staying balanced.  Don’t try to do too much with the ball when you see them making the topspin.  Face the ball at all times and make a simple stroke with the Backhand Block or Forehand Block.  If you watch the ball and are in good balanced position then you will give yourself the best chance to make a good return.

Forehand Block

The forehand block is one way to counter a topspin stroke hit to your forehand side. Learn this stroke and you will be able to keep yourself in the rally even when your opponent get the first attack in.
