Strokes
when i hit either type of counter hit shot i have a probelm completing the back hand with the turned up hand facing the ceiling, and similarly with forhand counter hit i don't end up at a kind of salute in front of my body. from habit i seem to end up short of the desired finish. it is very frustrating. when i do the backhand correctly - rarely - it really works and it gives me great confidence.
Hi Charlie,
Start by doing the stroke slowly. Do the strokes one at a time. So stop the ball after each shot so that you feel that you have enough time to complete your stroke.
Then when you feel you are finishing the stroke in the correct position, you can start to put a few strokes together.
The finish position is the most important part of learning a stroke. Keep focusing on it completely until you get it right.
Once you've mastered the start and finish position of the forehand topspin, you can start to focus on finer details. In this video we talk about the position of your legs, weight transfer, varying the finish position, incorporating footwork, the use of your wrist, and the angle of your bat for the stroke.
