Hi guys,

I want to copy the serve of Ma Long. I think I am doing it like him but I feel hard to generate enough backspin with his high toss service. The problem is that I haven't got enough control of it.

Hi Nasko,

Copying a top player is an excellent way to learn. It sounds like you have got most of it right. To get more backspin you need to brush the ball finely. This can be a bit difficult from a high toss serve as the ball will be travelling quite fast as it comes down. Since the ball is travelling fast, you don't need to swing your bat quite so fast and you'll still generate some good spin. So try to relax your arm and come through and brush the ball finely. For more tips take a look at our previous video response - How to Execute the Ma Lin Serve. I know it's not Ma Long's serve we are describing but the principles are the same.
