When making a backspin pendulum serve where on the bat should you contact ball?

Hi Joe,
Contact it the section of the bat that is close to the front edge and away from the handle.

Varying the spin on your serve makes it harder to return. You can vary the type of spin but possibly even more effective is varying the amount of spin.
