Strokes

A friend of mine, who is an excellent player, commented that I hit the forehand topspin too soon and that I don't wait for the ball to come to me.

Where should I contact the ball in relation to my body on a forehand.

Hi Phillip,

In general the hitting spot in relation to your body stays similar for all of your shots.

If you get someone to throw a ball to you, catch it with two hands.  This position that you catch the ball is a good hitting position.  This is where you have control of the ball.

The position stays the same for forehand and backhand.  For the forehand your trunk rotates slightly to get that hitting position more to the right side.  For the backhand it is more in front of you and you don't need to turn your shoulders.

Hello!

So if I understand your answer correctly, than you hit a backhand topspin/drive further away from the body than you would with the forehand?

No, you hit them at the same distance.  One is to the right of your body and one in font but at the same distance.
