Hello Alois and Jeff,

Can you just tell me how i should practice my high toss serve.  Please take the points below into consideration.

sometimes the serve comes very well (with lots of spin)

But sometimes i dont even get the bat to hit the ball while its falling.(Is this natural or is it something wrong in the way is do the serve)

sometimes the most strangest thing happens after about weeks of practice i eventually 'master' the spin and placement of my serve and suddenly on some day when is try to execute the serve i just miss the ball every time during my toss.

I often try to imitate the serving action of zhang jike.

when i practice the serve should the keep on practicing the serve for about 45 minutes.

during the toss what should i do if i get small variations in my toss, should i move in respect to the position of the ball and execute the serve or should i re toss the ball and try the serve again.

Well,i know my question is  quite long but it would help me greatly if you could give a response based on the points above.

Thank you.

Hi Sachintha,

One of the key elements to the High Toss serve is consistency of the toss.  If you get this right it will really help.  You can practice this repetitively even with out hitting the ball to start with.

The next thing is to stay relaxed and let the ball fall onto the bat.  You don’t need a really fast action because the ball already has speed from the toss.  Keep the hand relaxed and le the ball come to the bat.

If the ball does go to different spots on the toss in practice try to serve it anyway but remember keep practicing the toss as well.
