Chinese loop

Strokes

Hi Coach,

I want to get my attack to the next level and i see those chinese players attacking with their bat at a 75-90 degree angle. whenever i try this the ball flies like 10 meters of the table.

Maybe my problem is where i make the contact on my bat. i am not sure where my contact on my bat is but i guess mine is around the centre of the bat. All the professional players seem to hit the ball more at the end of their bat

I drawed where ma long hits the ball red.

the blue is where i make the contact.

So in short this is what i want to know.

1.How do i get the ball on the table with alot of power with my bat on a 75-90 degree angle?

2.How will i be able to make te contact more at the end of my bat all the time and get used to it?

3.Is there anything more i need to know?

P.S. I am using a DHS Skyline 3 NEO so i gues my rubber should be right for this stroke.

thanks in advance,

-Edwin

Hi Edwin,

Firstly your rubber will be OK.

The hitting spot is more on the leading edge. You have it marked on the trailing edge.  To get more power it is more important that you get your body to  help you with the stroke.  This will get your bat moving faster.  You can also relax your wrist and allow it to come through with your stroke.

To get your contact on the bat in the right spot you need to put attention on it during your training.  Each ball have awareness where it is hitting on your bat and you will soon feel and see the difference.

so what's the different (the effect of the stroke) when the contact on the red one and on the blue one ? i think ma long has a reason to contact on that place

He contacts on the front edge because you can get more spin because the ball is on the rubber for longer.

yh right after i submitted this question i grab my bat and a ball and i let it bounce on the ground and then topspin it. when i watched my bat it seems like i am already able to hit it on the right spot X)

But when i make the move more foreward to add alot of power i hit the ball more between the red and the blue marks. but i think thats because i just make a straight move foreward (at my finish position my elbow is in the front of my neck and my hand is above my left elbow.

How do i get a killer forehand like ma long does his (beside alot of practice and my finish position in front of my face) i just want some keypoints to focus on to make a start.

My forhand can still be effective but because its a straight move foreward the ball ends over the table and in the net at some times especially when im under pressure or frustraded.

I have really no idea that my topspin is a chinese one,
I similarly swinging like that in the picture.

so sir alois, you said that i can get more spin right ? does it make the ball less speed with that more spin ? is it effective and which one is better ? (the blue or red contact)

@frendy: For me it's where you feel most comfortable experiment it with some wall drill and with more spin you get more speed :) i am not really sure though

no, more spin is more dip and more dip means more accuracy. if you make a flat contact you wil get more speed and less spin and less spin means less accuracy

angling the racket flat-er will help you hit the ball at the top of the racket- generally giving you more spin as the ball runs across the length of the racket. while looping, to get better contact, i open my arm straight on my backstroke (and also twisting my waist back), then follow through with the whole arm (and waist) until i get contact with the ball. then i snap my forearm inwards (in the direction of my forehead) using the momentum of my motion
