Hi Coach,

This may sound stupid.  But is there any scientific reason behind the Chinese Domination in this sport?

Hi Jegadish,

I think one of the most scientific reasons is the weight of numbers.  I think it is a lot of hard training over time and the culture of Table Tennis as a sport attracting some of their best athletes in the country.

Also,  while young American players must split their time between ping pong and school, Chinese players practice all day in government facilities. And since the optimal time for playing is around 16-24, something like that, Chinese players inevitably have a huge advantage.

TT in china is their national sport, they produce thousands of atheletes every year and the government supports what they do. Chinese dominance through hard work and lethal practices of serves, returns, and third ball kills are the advantages within them.

Enriched culture of TT over the years.  More people play there and they devote more time.
