hi im niresh. i was thinking of changing my grip from shakehand to penhold and im playing short pimples in backhand. i have very good forehand and good at side attack but really weak when it comes to backhand . In game as well i use more than 70% forehand compare to my backhand . i have played shakehand for longer period of time but backhand is not improved a lot compared to forehand. i think change to penhold can bring stability on my backhand and can increase my performance as well. so what do u suggests me. so i make the change?

Hi Niresh,

Give it a try.  You can always go back to playing shakehand if it doesn’t suit you.

It could also be that you are focused on playing forehand more than backhand.  This can be in the way you are standing or even in your thought process.

Try to turn your feet more straight on to the table to allow you to get into position for your backhand.

You could also change your thought processes.  Sometimes when we have a stronger side we want the ball to come there and and so we prepare for that side, in this case your forehand.  Just by allowing ourselves to think that the ball can come to either side can improve your ability to hit the backhand.
