Changing between topspin and hit

Strokes

I always have this problem whereby there are times when I can add spin to the ball with a hit and times where I just hit.  Supposedly, in a hypothetical situtation, where I stand on a distance from the table receiving 2 similar balls one after another (similar spin, placement, speed), if the first ball that comes I would want to hit it, and the second I would want to add heavy topspin, what are the adjustments/differences I would need to make technically. and things like bat angle, starting position of bat and where and when do I contact the ball?

Hi JinMeng,

If you get it right the main difference is the angle of your swing.  For more spin you have a more vertical swing and for a faster hit you come more forward on the contact.  The bat angle can be more over the ball for the topspin as well.
