Do you really have to buy an expensive bat or set when your starting table tennis, or can you just start with cheap ones and work your way up to the better- quality and expensive ones?
Hi Eillon,
When starting out it is important that you have a bat that can generate spin. If your bat is really cheap you won't be able to get any spin on the ball and won't be able to learn the correct strokes. However you don't want to get a really fast bat to start with as it will be difficult to control and this can also be detrimental to your development.

The thickness of a table tennis table is the most important aspect of a table to ensure you get a true consistent bounce. Other things to consider are the net, portability, and storage space.
