Hi Sally,

If you can get a copy of our Serving Secrets Revealed DVD.  This will show you some techniques for getting more spin and brush.

One way of thinking about it is to just touch the ball or get the plane of your swing as a tangent to the ball, or think about trying to just brush a tiny insect off the ball without hitting into the ball.

I have purchased it. It is very helpful in getting different types of spin, but I am thinking of how to get the correct timing.

See if you can hit the ball in front of you.  Experiment with different hitting points and see which one works best for you.  You will find different hitting points and timing may give you different types of spin.

More often I find that the contact is the issue.  Make sure it is a brushing action and that if you do it away from the table the ball is spinning and curving.

Hope this helps a little more.
