Hi Coach,

Does blade lacquering increase the durability and even the speed of my blade? What I mean is, I use an ALL blade, so if I seal my blade would it become closer to ALL+? And finally is blade lacquering legal? Thank you.

Hi Abhishek,

You are permitted to lacquer your blade.  It will change the feel of it slightly by making it harder and therefore a little faster.

I don't think there is a real need for lacquering now because we change rubbers rarely.  It was more relevant when players used speed glue and had to reglue and change rubbers daily.

I only apply a very fine coat as it's only meant to assist in the removal of rubbers, not to make a blade harder. Be careful not to get any on the edges as that will make it more difficult for your edge tape to stick. Cheers
