Alois,

I'm modern defender and I have combo blade with long pips ox and smooth rubber 1.7 mm. What is the best service return against short backspin? Is it push, loop or flip? Most of the time, I push and start learning how to flip. Can I loop also? What I do know is that loop when the backspin is long. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hi Rodrigo,

IF the serve is long then you can topspin but as a defender you can also chop the ball low and long using either the rubber or pimples.  You can change this up.

If the serve is short you have options of a fast push with either rubber or a short push.  You can also try to flick.  The options are ends using the two different rubbers.  The best response will depend on your opponent and what they are able to cope with.
