Serving
Hi Coach,
How are you? :)
I'm Zul, I need your advise on how to serve or which best serve techniques against tall opponent / player i.e someone like Jorgen Persson / Vladimir Samsonov / Wang Li Qin.
Reason being, recently I played TT against with my office colleague (6"+- feet in height), whenever I serve short he easily flicked / flipped the ball and for long serve he would attacked the ball.
Coach, perhaps you will share some tips with regards to the above.
Thanks Coach.
Best Regards & TT Forever,
Zul (Malaysia)
Hi Zul,
A general tactic against tall players is to play into their middle. Work especially into their right hip. With their longer ars they need to move further to get into position.
The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.
