Hi,

just want to ask how I can be more offensive. I am a penhold player and have recently been focusing on my backhand (block, mainly), every time the ball comes to my forehand (long) I resort to a block and then end up being defensive. Also, as a penhold player, should I be using forehand all/most of the time because I am always trying to attack and just use my backhand when the ball goes far left (I am right handed)? This is because at the moment I am predominately using my backhand in all positions and blocking a lot so I end up defending and when I do attack early I always hit the ball long. I know this is a lot but can u help? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ben,

I think it will just be a matter of changing your mindset initially.

On each ball think about trying to make a forehand topspin and only play a backhand when you are forced deep into your backhand.

You may also want to turn your feet slightly so that you have your left foot more forward. This will put you into a better position to play a forehand.

Think about making an attacking stroke on each shot where the ball comes long to you.
