Bat vibrates when hitting the ball

Strokes

Hi! many people tell me that I hold the bat too tight, and I cannot generate enough topspin with forehand shots. Which is because I am putting too much power to hold the bat tight and not able to move the arm as fast as I can.

But when I hold the bat loose, I have noticed that my bat vibrates and gives me a shock feeling in my palm while countering powerful strokes. Also when I try to do forehand topspin with loose grip, my bat tends to displace around in my palm. Is this normal?

Hi Mrudul,

You need a loose grip to allow your wrist and fingers to flow through with the stroke.  If they are restricted then you are not using all of the parts of your hand that will help you to generate speed.  The bat should be able to be pulled out of your hand but obviously not that loose that it will slip when you are playing a stroke.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
