Footwork
Hi Alois and Jeff!
For some days, I've been focusing to increase my Ball Presence. 70% of the time, before I reach for the ball, either the ball goes off, or touches the racket awkwardly.
Then, While opening from the backhands, I also face the same problem. I know that I should wait for the ball just lift it with soft hands, but I cannot do so, rather hit with extreme power, as if to finish the point.
Is it because of the stiffness? If yes, should I increase my physical exercises? Please Suggest me the exercises, if possible.
Thank You!
Hi Jaydev,
I don't think it is more physical exercises required here but more footwork training. The first reaction needs to be to move to the ball and then make the stroke.
At the moment, it sounds like the first movement it to reach for the ball.
The more you practice the basic footwork movements, the better you will get at making that first move with the legs.
Do a lot of footwork drills such as the ones that we have in the Training Drills free download that we have.
Don't just hit your third ball attack as fast as you can every time. Firstly it is a risky strategy and secondly your opponent starts to anticipate your shots. Think about varying your spin, speed and placement. In this master class we explain what makes a great third ball attack and Jeff shares some of his personal favourite third ball tips.
