Ball deterioration

Equipment

I know there are specifications on the bounce height of the ball after it is dropped to make sure it is legal, but I would assume over time the bounce deteriorates. What would be the thinking of when a ball should no longer be used?

Hi Tim,

The official rule for bounce tests involves dropping a ball from a height of 30.5 cm onto a standard steel block and it should bounce up approximately 23 to 26 cm. While not every player may use this method at home, observing a noticeable difference in bounce during play is usually a good indicator that the ball might need to be retired.  For casual play, as long as the ball isn't cracked or deformed, it will still be fine to play with.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
