My underspin service comes with a lot of spin and my opponent is unable to play with a cut or push.

But

My sidespin service comes really loose and opponent just attacks it.

What should I do?

Hi Harkaran.

For the sidespin serve, focus on keeping the ball lower and closer to the net.

Then use a variation between the backspin and sidespin to be able to make it more difficult for your opponent.  If you can make those two serves look similar then it will also be more effective.

Hello dear Alois,

I am really thankful to you and Jeff that I am improving a lot by watching your videos. I am even managing to deal with heavy backspins/topspins/sidespins quite well. However, I do not have lot of experiences in matches regarding spinning balls. So my question is how can I recognize whether the opponent is giving me a spinning ball? Should I look at the ball quickly before I react so that I can figure out whether it is a spinning ball or something different?

Thanks a lot in advance and kind regards,

Rai, Netherlands

You do need to watch the ball.  Start by watching the contact of your opponent on the ball.  This will give you some information on whether it is spinning or not.  Also watch the flight of the ball.  A spinning ball will fly differently to a flat ball.

You said that you get the sidespin attacked that's actually because you might have done it long? And should be expected when doing top, side and nospin serves. You can always add underspin to the serve.
