Strokes
Hi alois,
I have quite a good backhand topspin against backspin. It is quite powerful and spinny if I can consistently topspin the ball.
But the main problem is that ball always seems to get to close to my body making me miss the ball because I do not have enough space to create do the swing. The body seems to getting in the way. On the forehand side, this problem won't happen because I play the stroke outside of the body. And if if the ball has went behind me, I can't still hit the ball because the body isn't in the way. But for the backhand, we play the stroke in front of our body and this is why I always miss the ball because the ball seems like it's already about to hit my belly before I can get the swing.
So the question is, how do I prevent the body from getting in the way so that I can improve consistency on my backhand topspin?
Hi Eugene,
Try taking half a step away from the table to allow yourself more time to make the swing. It sounds like you re running out of time.
As soon as you serve move a little further away to allow yourself that extra time.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
