hi alois and jeff,

sorry about asking this question AGAIN that too about da same topic...

but i simply cant topspin close to the table with backhand (close as in top of bounce reached at edge of the table or so...) i use a very short stroke with very little forearm and as much wrist as possible.

when i do get the ball on the table it hardly has any pace and makes an easy punch/ counterloop. can u suggest anything to get more pace and also more control on the ball? plz reply soon as without my bh i put immense strain on my forehnd causing me to lose points by placement.

ps. i use sriver on the BH.

ty!

Hi Shripathi,

That is alright.  Sometime strokes take a long time to understand and get better.

Try getting your stroke more horizontal so that your bat is moving forward.  This will add to the speed of the ball and also help you with that ball that is close to the edge of the table.

Hi Alois,

I hit my backhands into the net sometimes and sometimes I hit it off the table! And I also am afraid of making my backhand topspin because I struggle with it.  I feel like it\'s my wrist and my paddle. My paddle has no friction and my wrist just drops it into the net. Also, what do you think you would do?

Hi Ian,

I noticed that you were using a hard bat.  This will make it really difficult to make the backhand topspin stroke.  When you get your new bat you will be able to control the ball a bit better.  Remember it is a matter if consistent practice and a lot of time to get strokes correct.

Sometimes I forget about my CORRECT technique with my backhand topspin and can't hit it on the table!

Think of technique with your arm as well as maintaining balance when you are playing the stroke.

hi coach

do i need to bring my swing forward by about 45 to 30 degrees whne close to the table?

also when away from the table do i start as high table or slightly below?

also wat do u when looping behind the table :go for medium-fast speed and high spin or low-medium spin and high speed?ty

Hi Shripathi,

The swing depends on the type of ball you are receiving and the type of ball you want to give them.

If you want the ball to go faster then you can swing more forward.  If you want the ball to be slower and more spin then you can swing more vertically.

When you are away fro the table you have a bit more time to swing so it can be a longer stroke but the same principles apply.  If you want it to go faster then swing forward.  The type of speed and spin you give them can vary depending on the player.  Some players will like the ball coming fast and others will like the slower ball. Don't forget to also vary the type of ball you give players otherwise they will start to predict the type f ball you are giving them.
