Hello, I have a quick question about the backhand loop. I'm pretty well on the forehand but I just have trouble with my backhand. I use it regularly while playing. I don't know why but when I do try to hit it with my backhand it either barely makes it over the net or flies off into another room, any help would be great.

Hi Jon,

Wow, this could be a whole range of things.  The Backhand Topspin or Loop, has some basics that you need to follow.  I am not sure if you have found the PingSkills Lessons on Youtube on the Backhand Topspin yet?  There is one on the Backhand Topspin against Block and one on the  Backhand Topspin against Backspin .

I always think it is important to go back to what you know works.   See if you are starting and finishing in the correct positions, and that your contcat is a brushing action.

Sometimes when you are getting such wild variations it could be due to the tension in your arm as well.  It doesn't take much to get those variations, just a slight change of angle of the bat through tightening on the swing which throws the contact point out, will do it.

Take a look at the Lessons if you haven't already done so and let us know if you need any other help.

If this doesn't help try the Analysis Section and send us a video of your strokes so we can do a proper analysis of them.

  3. Finish Position: Completing the stroke in a way that prepares you for the next shot.

Additionally, we discuss how to adjust your bat angle if the ball goes long, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the same start and finish positions without coming across your body.
