When I play my backhand counterhit I unknowingly use my wrist to hit the ball rather than my elbow. Is this a bad technique? How do I correct it? I am having trouble in placing ball consistently at one postion on table due to this action. I watched your backhand counterhit video and tried to play like that  but then my opponent said that I was top-spinning the ball instead of counter hitting it. What is my mistake? I am having hell of a trouble due to my very poor backhand. Please tell me how to master backhand and what to do and what not to do while playing backhand.

Sorry I am asking a very very basic question  to a pro like you but this problem of my backhand is giving me a lot of problem.

Thank you very much. Your videos have been great help especially the videos about forehand topspin.

Hi Aneesh,

Make sure you start the stroke by keeping it really simple.  Start by using very little wrist and mainly your forearm.  Think only of your start and finish position sof your stroke.  Start with you rbat nice and flat facing the ball, with the bat infront of your stomach.

Finish with your bat at shoulder height and to the right hand side of your body.

You need to develop the stroke so that you can play 100 balls on the table consistently before you progress the stroke.  Using your wrist is effective but also leads to inconsistency.  That is why you really need to develop the control first.

Thanks for your kind words about our videos.  We really appreciate the support.
