Strokes
Hi,
I'm an attacking player but our club appears to have more than its fair share of 'choppers'. I'm trying to attack a received long backspin ball with a forehand loop, but I'm not doing very well. I've had some success by waiting for the ball a little longer and taking it on the drop and spinning up the back of the ball. However, the coach picks me up for doing it and tells me to stop lifting. I have watched the relevant videos but still struggling. Thanks.
Hi Spike,
I thin initially lifting is the easiest option here. Get some safety over the net with that higher brushing contact.
As you progress and get the feel of the spin and the angle you need you can start to brush closer to the top of the ball. This however requires a faster brushing contact and therefore has a higher risk factor.
It is great you have a few choppers to play as it helps to improve your topspin.
Question actions
Table tennis is fast, but rushing your shots is the biggest mistake we see. Hitting the ball too early throws off your timing, balance, and control. In this video, we show you how to play with better rhythm and stay calm under pressure.
