30 days to train

Training

Good morning!

I am a recreational player and do not play on a regular basis (although I'd like to more in 2012).  Our family and extended family is having a TT tournament 30 days from now and I am absolutely committed to doing everything I can to improve my play between now and then to win.

Compared to the 6-8 other players participating, I win ~40% of the time against the best of them (my brother) on any given match.

What training strategy should I use for the next month to maximize my chance of bringing home the family crown?

Thanks and happy new year!

Hi Steven,

Sounds like there is a bit of pride on the line here.

The things that are important are to practice your strengths.  You can also improve your serves in that amount of time.

The first few ball in the rally is where the focus should be.  So starting with the serve the return of serve and then the 3rd ball attack is where your focus should lie.

Good luck with the tournament.

I know it is too late for you but the last 8 weeks of our Premium Membership Yearly Training Plan focus on just this.  We go through an 8 week plan to prepare for a tournament.

#8 - Fast Footwork

In this session you'll focus on increasing the speed of your footwork. To do this we ask you to forget about consistency and concentrate on speed. You should be playing at a pace where you can get around 4 or 5 balls on the table. If you are getting 10 or 20 balls on then you need to up your pace again. It's important to play right to the edge of your ability to actually increase your skill level. We also continue to develop the new serve you have chosen to work on.
