Using Stripe to Accept Payments

PingSkills News

Pingskills is now using Stripe for processing our payments. We previously used PayPal but I found it was hard to manage subscriptions. For example if someone wanted to switch from a monthly plan to a yearly plan, it would only work if someone had subscribed using their PayPal account. With Stripe this process is much easier to manage.

Another feature that I'd been wanting to implement was to offer long time members discounts on their premium membership. Again with PayPal this is not a straight forward process. With Stripe it should be much easier.

Some other advantages of Stripe are that the user stays on the PingSkills website the whole time so the flow is much better and it's less confusing for someone signing up as a new member. Since you enter your card details on our website we've moved over to using SSL so that when you're credit card details are sent to Stripe it is encrypted. For those of you who are interested watch this video on why every website should be using SSL. And if you want to set up SSL on your own website take a look at Let's Encrypt.

PingSkills still does not store any of your credit card details, we leave that to Stripe since they are the security experts. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor, and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available.

So if you sign up for a premium membership, or buy a PingSkills Rook let me know if the process was easy and straight forward.

It looks like the change over to https isn't quite complete on the site as saving data to the vault get an error during the submit processing.  It seems to save the data though.

Looks like the vault updates are working but the icons are still broken.

OK. I think I've got it sorted now Larry. The icons should be showing now. Please let me know if there is still a problem or if you find anything else.

Hey Jeff,

Awesome work making the website HTTPS enabled and integrating Stripe. I just noticed now I see the prices for the PingSkill bats in Indian Rupees, that's so awesome :-)
