Writing down team names

Rules

Hi Alois.

I wanted to ask you something. I wrote a letter asking you some questions about the following tournament I had. Thanks for the advices, they were helpful. :) But there was a problem. One of the school teams saw without problems our A, B and C players and made their X, Y and Z the way they would beat us easily. Is seeing your opponent's team letters allowed according to the rules? But if it's not, it already doesn't matter because we lost. :( But thanks again for your advices about staying calm because I wasn't nervous that time.

Hi Peter,

That is great news that you stayed calm at the tournament.  This is a big achievement.

As far as the rules for choosing your team, both teams should write down their team names and then when they are written they can be shown to the other team.  Usually an umpire will do this before the match starts.  If there wasn't an umpire then the coaches or captains should do this between themselves.

So, it's allowed only when it's written? Our opponents had seen the A, B and C team letters before they wrote their list. That means that they were cheating.

Well... it shouldn't have been done that way.
