Coach

I notice when I practice my forehand the ball marks on the bat are closer to and below the handle,  where should I be making contact on the bat?  Should it be more in the middle of the bat or say on the trailing edge or leading edge of the bat?

Also, does the location change for a different stroke, say the backhand?  or should I just try for the middle every time to be more consistent

cheers and happy new year

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

For your strokes in general it is best to hit the ball in the middle of the racket.  This will give you the best chance of being consistent.

However when you are hitting a topspin, the best place is closer to the leading edge.

For the backhand topspin I find the sweet spot is closer to the end of the racket away from the handle as the wrist is utilised more with the backhand and the bat moves in a slightly different way to the forehand.

Hi Alois

There's a coach that tell that the topspin contact should be at the bottom edge and not on the upper edge

What I know is we usually hit it from the upper side

When I try to topspin just like usually, he said that I hitted it on the buttom end, but I know that I just hit it from the upper end!

I try to watch your videos and see that you and jeff hit the ball on the buttom end also

So I really confused about this. Please help me

I know something wrong about the feeling and what really happened!

Take another look and you will see the contact is closer to the top.  It is hard to tell on the videos.
