Hello pingskills. When is the time to open up a ball? or how will i know that i can loop or topspin the ball after service? Thank you soo much
Hi Nikko,
If you stay with the principle of topspin against any ball that only bounces once on your side of the table you will have a fairly easy time making decisions.
If the ball is going to bounce twice on your side then you can either push or flick the ball depending on the type of spin on the ball and the height of the ball.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
