Wang Hao Looping Underspin

Strokes

When I watch matches of Wang Hao vs. Joo Se Hyuk it seems like he ignores the backspin because he can get a very fast loop and it looks like his blade is at a closed angle. Does he do this by using a lot of power and can amateurs use this method to lift underspin?

Hi Chris,

The one thing that he does which is important is that he has a lot of racket head speed when he contacts the ball.  This allows him to get enough friction on the ball to lift it over the net even if his racket is closed.

It is difficult for lower level players to get enough speed with the racket to be able to lift the backspin that is why we recommend you have a more vertical stroke to help with the lift.

I agree with Chris, you are really able to help

Recently although I was unable to win a set, I was able to force my opponent to lose a humiliating bet that he made with his friends
