Recently I saw a comment about a backspin smash. How is it even possible to get backspin on a smash?

Hi Jasper,

The Backspin smash is only possible when the ball is higher.  It is a very risky stroke because the ball will tend to float and can often miss the table.

There was. previous discussion in this link https://www.pingskills.com/table-tennis-forum/chop-smash.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.

You can come down on the ball in a backspin action but this is a very unreliable way to smash and not one that I would recommend.
