Strokes
Hi Alois,
When I go for a fast topspin (with topspin so it can have a chance to dip on the table), I swing horizontialy with a closed bat, and then.......I tighten up when I really want to be lose, and I tighten up every part of my body!
Problems:
1. Should I have a closed bat?
2.What makes me tighten up?
3.What can prevent this problem so I can use my body to crunch the ball and still keep the ball on the table?
Please make a video if you can.
THX,
Ian.
Hi Ian,
Tension comes because you are stressing about the result of the shot or game. If you are trying too hard this can also happen. It may be that you are trying to hit the ball too hard rather than trusting the swing to generate the speed. A relaxed arm will move faster than a tight one because all the muscles will be working in the correct way when you are relaxed.
The angle of the bat is something that you will adjust naturally when you are relaxed. The angle will depend on a lot of things including the type of ball they are hitting to you, the grip of your rubber, the speed of your swing and others. That is why it is important to allow natural adjustment.
Often when playing it is important to work out which foot you are going to have forward when playing your shots. If you are close to the table does this change?
