Skills vanishing away after 15 minutes of playing

Strokes

Hi again. A couple of days ago I asked about my forehand smashing problem. Now I generate very good power and control with my forehand. But the problem is, after playing for about 15 minutes, my good smashes just vanish away. Is it a time question, like I will get better and will maintain the skills for longer or is it because I get tired or what ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Aleksander,

It could be that you are getting tired physically but also mentally perhaps.

Take a short break and then practice it some more and see if that helps.

Sometimes it can just be that you start to overthink the stroke.  So allow yourself to play the stroke and see what is happening.  Often your body will just adjust to the stroke.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
