Training
Dear PingSkills,
When training table tennis, do we need to do some running for stamina as a complementary training? For the case when we can only play table tennis twice a week, what kind of running would be suitable? How about for competitive players, do they usually do running as training also?
Regards,
Kenneth
Hi Kenneth,
Endurance is important for Table Tennis players in situations when you are playing tournaments over a long day or over a few days.
It will also help you to recover quickly in matches.
All of this means that your body isn't working as hard so you have more ability to concentrate and think your way through.
Although attacking is the most popular style at the top level in Table Tennis, it is important to be able to defend well. If you choose to play a defensive style then you should be practicing these strokes all the time. If you play an attacking stroke then you should still try and find some time for these strokes. If you can win one extra point by defending well when pressured, it could make the difference between winning and losing.
