Reverse pendulum serve

Serving

My favorite serve is the reverse pendulum.  I have found that it works best for me because I will almost always get to hit a forehand on the 3rd ball.  I mix it up with short sidespin,  short backspin/sidespin and long/short sidespin with topspin.  My motion changes less with these serves than other serves so it's more deceptive.  I would like to add the no spin.  Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi Mark,

Well done on getting the Reverse Pendulum serve to be effective.  For the no spin serve, push your bat more forward through the ball to get the contact flatter.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

Hi Srikrishna,

For deception, try to get the contact fast.  Also try to get the different contacts both coming down and up on the contact to get the back and top spins.

As far as placing it, there are several places to place it but it all depends on your opponent and where they don’t feel comfortable.
