Hi alois

i want to ask you how to do the shortest return of backspin serve and how to return the long and fast serve.

Hi Tanakrit,

To return the short serve with backspin you don't need to use a lot of forward motion with the return.  Just put your bat to the ball and allow the spin to take it back.  What you need to do is adjust the angle of your bat correctly.  This is easier said than done to get it just right.  It requires a lot of experience and touch.

To return the long serve you should use a topspin stroke to attack the long serve.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
