Coach,

Last weekend, I played round robin against 200 above my level. I beat 3 opponents. By the way my rubbers are LP OX (backhand) thin smooth rubber (forehand). I lost against my fourth opponent. He  mixed serving  both corners short and both corners fast long serves. In addition, he looked one corner and served at the other corner and sometime he did not. I know, I have to watch his eyes and his paddle. My question to you is how to beat this opponent.

Hi Rodrigo,

Well done on your results.

Against the 4th opponent, focus on the ball not on his eyes or anything else.  This will give you the true information of where the ball is and what to do next.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
