Before 2000, How do people read the spin of the serve when your opponent hides the contact.

Hi Jasper,

I think it was more difficult but players used to listen fo the contact, watch the overall action of the server and also watch the flight of the ball to judge the spin.

This is an advantage even today. For two reasons: some players have so complicated serve actions or so subtle changes that reading the actual flight is advantageous. And also,especially at lower levels and higher ages, the players still hide their serves

Player hide the sound of the contact as well to make it harder

Yes,but actually,the sound only identifies the presence of spin,not its direction.
