Pure sidespin on tomahawk and pendulum serve

Serving

I'm not sure how to angle my bat when doing a pure sidespin tomahawk or pendulum serve. If you angle the bat straight ahead, the ball flies off at an angle. I'd like the ball to go straight (though curved), so I think you have to angle the bat somewhat. Thank you.

Hi Mark,

Have the bat vertical with the nose pointing to the ground for the Pendulum and string tup to the roof for the Tomahawk.  Then brush the ball on the side.  You can bush it more on the back but sidewards if you like to change the direction of the ball.

This will get the sidespin and also allow you to hit the ball to anywhere on the table.

The Float Serve

The float or no spin serve is an effective tool to have in your bag of serves. It adds good variation to your serves and can often set you up with an easy 3rd ball opportunity.
