Problem with training partners block

Training

Hi Pingskills I have a problem with the way my training partner blocks.  It's just when I'm doing Drills the ball comes back so fast because of the way he blocks e.g punches more pace on to it.  I don't  have any problems with my other training partners.  I just find the ball comes back so fast.

What should I do?

Hi Cameron,

You need to talk to him about this.  Perhaps change the drill focus and see if you can set a target of how many hits the two of you can do in a row this may get him to block a little slower.

Has anyone else had this issue and could offer some advice?

#8 - Fast Footwork

In this session you'll focus on increasing the speed of your footwork. To do this we ask you to forget about consistency and concentrate on speed. You should be playing at a pace where you can get around 4 or 5 balls on the table. If you are getting 10 or 20 balls on then you need to up your pace again. It's important to play right to the edge of your ability to actually increase your skill level. We also continue to develop the new serve you have chosen to work on.

Actually I find it better when my training partner blocks with the pace of my own topspin as it is far more likely what will occur in a real math scenario.I only ask them to soft block when I am trying to learn a new stroke; or practicing my footwork which is a bit slow. Sometimes, to add some challenge for my partner, I try to confuse him  by suddenly giving him a slower-spinnier topspin in the fast rally.

Thanks the problem is when doing drills like 3 FH it's too difficult anyway I've talked to the partner & he really struggles to block slower so we decided multi-ball the way too go.
