Equipment
Hi Alois,
Merry Christmas. I have been using a robot a lot to sharpen up my attacking stokes. At my two club sessions per week, almost everyone has transitioned to the new plastic ball. The robot has the old kind of ball. The tournament I have been training for will be using a plastic ball. When I use the robot, although I have gotten much better recently on offense, I can certainly notice a difference in the two balls. My question is do you think that I should continue using the robot transitioning between the two kinds of balls, especially with the tournament coming up soon, or do you think I should just lay off on the training until I can get my hands on some plastic balls? Is it better to practice with two different kinds of balls, or just limit my practice to one kind? Thank you.
Hi Anthony,
In the two weeks leading up to the tournament it is probably better to practice exclusively with the plastic balls due to the slight difference.
Other than that it is probably OK to keep changing between the two balls as the Plastic balls are not cheap enough as yet to purchase in bulk and train with the robot.
Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.
