Hi Alios/Jeff

I live in india and there are very few sellers for table tennis equipments here. When I purchase stuff like rubbers/blade from them a doubt remains in my mind thatvit is original or a copy of it. I have heard many chinese manufacturers make clone of original products and supply to different parts of the world. They look very very similar to original and it is very hard to tell. How to check if the product is original or not? Please guide us.

Hi Sumit,

I am not sure if there is a simple way.  Others may be able to help you out here with some comments.

I guess you are probably less at risk if you avoid the most expensive / trendiest rubbers (like Tenergy) and go for older and cheaper rubbers like Mark V. Obviously don't think you can find genuine new Tenergys for $30.

Buying abroad online could be a solution. Shipping fees are not that expensive if you just buy rubbers, or if you team up with others and spend a little more.

I heard some rumours about DHS Hurricane 3 Neo that they are fake, only available in China. Is this true?

I have heard that too.

But how it is possible DHS Hurricane 3 Neo is used by world's no.1 player Ma Long.

But on internet I got the same comments that they are fake, only available in China

I don't know the answer to that.

My understanding is that there are different versions of Hurricane 3 Neo (National, Provincial and international) and it seems that availability of some of the versions is limited. Check 42:28 of the TableTennisDaily Podcast #7 - Marcos Freitas

Good question, Summit Saxena...

A while back, I had put the fake rubber to the test and found some differences. Firstly, you should go to websites which are known selling the original. Normally, the original rubber sells at the same price among the trusted vendors. Once you find out the price from there, the fakes will sell a lot less. When I bought some fake rubber, the packaging was identical, I couldn't tell the original from the fake. But there was some obvious differences.

I bought what appeared to be Donic rubber. I owned the original so I could compare. The color of the sponge on the original was blue, the color on the fake was light yellow color. Also, the color on the rubbers were different, on the fake it was more of an orange-red color while the original had a darker red color.

The quality of play, the fake did not play good, it was a lot slower and seems less spinny than the original. Also, the fake was way more tacky than the original.

So you can't tell by just looking at the package, but you can tell once you are able to take a look at the rubber and sponge along with it's playing ability. If I was you, I would just order the rubber through a trusted vendor over the internet unless there is one in India that you can trust to sell you original rubbers.

Thanks guys

As Miklos stated, I have heard the same.

Mime in india we dont have any authorized seller for TT products. Butterfly official website donot deliver products here. Only trusted site is ttnpp.com from china, but how good it is, it is still questionable.

Their is also some site in India such as (flipkart.com) (ebay.in), (khemart.com) also offers a wide range of rubber or if you are not satisfied with the product you can return. I haven't tried them yet. Try at your own riskcool

Their is also a international site (http://global.rakuten.com/) which ships product from Japan to any country. However I don't know if they can be returned or not.
